Monaco Telecom sells cloud to non-rival carriers

The contents of smartphones are increasingly stored in the cloud

Cable & Wireless Communications’ Monaco business, Monaco Telecom, is to sell cloud services to smaller non-competing fixed and mobile operators across Europe. The services will be powered by a hosted offering from telecoms applications developer Movius Interactive.

Movius already operates the Café Cloud platform in the United States and had been looking for a European partner with secure data centre facilities to expand the offering and let other operators benefit from economies of scale.

Café Cloud is expected to appeal to Europe’s smaller fixed line and mobile operators which want to reduce fixed IT costs and management complexity by implementing new applications for their customers on a pay-as-you-go model through the internet. Initial SaaS-based services will include visual voicemail and myIdentities, an app which allows users to host their personal and business accounts on a single smartphone.

Martin Péronnet, CEO of Monaco Telecom, said:
“For all operators it is integral to supply a constant stream of new and innovative applications. Providing these services via the cloud is the perfect solution to ensure agility, cost efficiency and maximum potential and we are pleased to be at the core of this transition in Europe.”
