Rogers appoints Vodafone UK boss

Guy Laurence will leave Vodafone UK for Rogers Communications, Jeroen Hoencamp will replace him at Vodafone

Canadian operator Rogers Communications has poached Vodafone UK CEO Guy Laurence. He will take on the role of president and CEO at the firm from December 2, 2013.  In response, Vodafone UK has promoted enterprise director Jeroen Hoencamp to fill Laurence’s shoes.

Rogers Communications said that the appointment of Laurence follows an extensive international search for a CEO to succeed outgoing CEO Nadir Mohamed, who announced his plan to retire earlier this year.

Laurence brings 30 years of global experience in telecommunications, pay television and media; he first joined Vodafone in 2000 and has held a number of increasingly senior roles including CEO of Vodafone Netherlands in 2005, before becoming CEO of Vodafone UK in 2008.

“The board unanimously chose Guy as the best leader to succeed Nadir and to take the company forward,” said Alan Horn, chairman of the Board at Rogers Communications. “Guy is a strong, proven executive who has consistently delivered strong financial and operating results in highly complex and competitive markets.”

Hoencamp became Vodafone UK’s enterprise director in January 2013. Prior to that he was chief executive of Vodafone Ireland for two and half years and had also previously held a marketing and sales roles in Vodafone Netherlands for 12 years. Hoencamp’s successor will be announced in due course.
