without DPI or similar types of CSG applications, how does the policy management application enable excluding applications?

    • Jonathan Downey 09/06/2010 @ 3:35 am

DPI is needed to exclude applications. The enforcement point (DPI) provides the visibility into the traffic and the enforcement capability with the policy decision point, called Policy Manager in my presentation, providing the configurable intelligence.

The enforcement point role can be incorporated in the GGSN or in external standalone entity. What option is preferable? what is your opinion on the subject?

    • Jonathan Downey 09/06/2010 @ 12:03 pm

From a 3GPP standards perspective it is clear, the enforcement function resides in the gateway. However, we’re seeing situations where operators want to deploy multiple enforcement points, to enable them to get the visibility / applications they want. So, regardless of what the standards say today it is a subject of much debate. From an Openet perspective, with our strong correlation capabilities, we currently supporting both scenarios in our customer deployments.
