Huawei bags MobileOne Singapore LTE network deal

Tower outsourcing is increasingly popular

Singaporean operator M1 has announced the deployment of the market’s first commercial LTE network.

Huawei is the winner of the contract to provide the core network infrastructure, with a five-year deal worth S$280m (US$225.4). This will include installation of macro base stations, distributed base stations and Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

The LTE network is expected to be completed island wide by the end of the first quarter of 2012.

“We are building an advanced world class mobile network, which will truly enhance the wireless internet experience for our customers, and cater to the increasing demands of future mobile devices and applications,” said Karen Kooi, M1’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

“With Huawei’s strong global track record and technological expertise, we are confident that this partnership will maintain M1’s technology leadership in the wireless space,” Kooi added.

M1 is the third largest operator in Singapore with just under 28 per cent of the market, according to Informa research.
