First SIP dual-mode handset on Windows 5.0 is launched

US handset manufacturer Paragon Wireless, has launched what it claims is the “world’s first SIP-based Windows Mobile 5.0 dual-mode handset”. The hipi-2200 also doubles as a quad band GSM/GPRS handset.

Although the device is aimed at corporates who can make significant savings by giving employees a device that can make calls over the company WLAN, it looks much like a consumer device. It has a built-in 2.0M pixel camera, an MP3 player and a camcorder all running on Windows Mobile 5.0.

Paragon claims the handset will provide seamless transition between cellular and 802.11g networks as well as between WLAN access points.

It uses a 1100mAh Li-ion battery that provides around 4 hours of talk time, or 100 hours of standby time.
