Tiscali records strong ADSL growth

Italian ISP Tiscali announced the addition of 360,000 new ADSL customers during the first half of 2006 on Thursday, bringing the company’s total broadband customers to over 2 million. More than one quarter of this total is receiving unbundled local loop services.

Strong growth in ADSL access services meant that revenues at the company increased to Eur412.5m, up 17 per cent year on year, while EBITDA increased 22 per cent year on year to Eur63.8m.

Tiscali UK continued its own growth curve with over 266,000 net activations of ADSL services and a growth rate of 28 per cent on the ADSL user base. As of the end of June, the Tiscali ADSL user base in the UK was approximately 1.2 million users.

The company also trumpeted success from its ULL activities, with subscriptions to direct unbundled access topping 85,000. Tiscali said that its most successful product in the UK market was the unlimited 1Mb access offering, delivered at a monthly rate of £14.99.

In August, Tiscali merged with Video Networks International, to reposition itself as a triple play operator. As a result, Tiscali UK will reach over 1.3 million DSL customers, of which 350,000 double play customers, with internet access and VoIP, as well as 45,000 IPTV subscribers.
