Portugal Telecom launches 400 Mbps broadband

Cisco will virtualize multiscreen TV functions
Portugal’s incumbent telco has launched a new triple-play service which promises broadband speeds of 400 Mbps, delivered over its fibre-optic network.

The service includes its IPTV service ‘Meo TV’ (offering 125 channels), unlimited fixed-line phone calls, mobile broadband, its music service ‘Musicbox’, its mobile TV service ‘Meo GO’ (offering 60 channels), and its games service ‘Meo Jogos’.

Portugal Telecom has also doubled the speed of its fibre-based 50 Mbps broadband service to 100 Mbps, available at the same price, as part of efforts to gain scale with its fibre rollout.

The telco has already achieved considerable success with its fibre rollout, having already gained a 55% penetration rate of homes passed, and driven subscriptions to its triple-play service ‘Meo’ past the 1mn mark.
