One million iPhones sold

Apple continues to dominate the headlines, with company boss, Steve Jobs, revealing Monday that the 1 millionth iPhone has been sold.

The announcement means Apple has reached its 1 million milestone ahead of schedule. In July, Jobs said that the company hoped to sell its 1 millionth iPhone by the end of the third quarter, taking it to one tenth of its 10 million goal.

Earlier, Apple revealed that it sold 270,000 iPhones in first 30 hours the product went on sale, June 29.

“One million iPhones in 74 days – it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod,” said Jobs. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season.”

And the rumour mill continued to grind as it emerged that the company has struck a deal with radio technology firm, Interdigital, giving Apple access to certain “3G technologies”. Odds are on that this deal is key to the introduction of a 3G-enabled iPhone model many expect to be launched in Europe in December.
