Verizon and YouTube in content talks

According to reports, America’s second largest telecommunications company, Verizon, is in talks with online video service YouTube to put its wares on mobile phones.

The report comes days after YouTube announced its intention to create a service specifically designed for wireless devices.

According to the Wall Street Journal the talks are at an “advanced” stage.

It is understood that Verizon Wireless – the firm’s joint venture with Vodafone – customers will get YouTube videos delivered to their mobiles through Verizon’s premium V Cast service but the Journal also speculates that videos could be offered as an on-demand feature of a national TV service it is due to launch next year.

YouTube recently inked an agreement to be bought by Google for $1.65bn (£866m).
